"MAXI" First Observation of a Massive Black Hole Swallowed a Star

The Monitor of All Sky X-Ray Image (“MAXI”), which is on Japanese Experiment Module (“KIBO”) in coordination with the gamma-ray burst satellite Swift (USA), have observed the instant of a massive black hole swallowed a star for the first time in the world, located in the center of a galaxy 3.9 billion light years away.

The "MAXI" is called as "Space Astronomical Observatory", for which we were very deeply involved in both development and manufacturing. In July 2009 it was installed on the overboard experimental platform of the “KIBO” and since August 2009 it has continued to monitor the whole sky x-ray.

The result was disclosed on the newspapers issued on the 25th August. For the details please see http://www.jaxa.jp/press/2011/08/20110825_maxi_j.html
